Pedestrian suspension bridge

Spiral strand ropes for the Ponte Tibetano Monte Carasso.

270 metres long with a 14-metre sag: a Tibetan bridge across an inaccessible valley.

The 270-metre-long, 50-tonne Tibetan bridge in Ticino crosses an inaccessible valley that separates two districts. It is part of a hiking trail of cultural, historical and touristic value to the region. The upper suspension ropes also serve as handrails. The bridge has a sag of 14 metres and is not free from oscillation. On both sides, it is anchored by an elaborate stabilisation system. FATZER supplied all the ropes: suspension ropes, wind guy ropes and hanger ropes, all of them spiral strand ropes.
