Rope facade – net
Full locked coil ropes for the entrance canopy of Penn Station in New York.

12 metres high and shaped like an A: the canopy above one of New York City’s most important stations.
At the 33rd Street entrance to Penn Station in Manhattan, a 12-metre-high canopy forms an A of steel and glass. It consists of a double-curved, two-dimensional rope net freeform attached to a steel frame. Several hundred thousand people pass beneath it every day on their way into one of New York City’s most important railway stations. FATZER supplied 24 full locked coil ropes with diameters of 25 and 40 mm. During installation, the ropes were tensioned to bring the facade into its final shape before the glazing was fitted.
