New Funicular Railway

Wire rope for a record-breaking funicular

With a maximum gradient of 110%, the Stoos funicular is the steepest funicular railway in the world.

Over a distance of around 1,700 metres, the funicular climbs 743 vertical metres to the car-free mountain resort of Stoos, making it an essential transport link for both residents and visitors. The railway also contributes to sustainability: energy generated during braking is recovered and used to provide heat for a nearby hotel.
